Van Ness Extended Family Session | Little Cranberry Island | Bar Harbor Family Photographer

Photography

Each summer, the Van Ness family travels to Little Cranberry Island, where they spend their days breathing in the fresh ocean air, and taking bike rides down to the beach. But they don’t always end up being there at the same time, so on this unique occasion where the entire family was going to be together, they invited me to come and capture a small piece of their paradise in Maine.

Grandpa Van Ness purchased a house on the island over 50 years ago, and since then, the family has always enjoyed spending their summers on Little Cranberry Island, which is only a ferry ride away from Mt. Desert Island. Mt. Desert Island is well known for containing the gorgeous Acadia National Park, as well as Bar Harbor, a tourist favorite. So on a warm summer day in August, I took a short ferry ride to Little Cranberry Island where I met the Van Ness Family at their home. We started off taking some photos outside of the home, and then took a walk down to the only church on the island. Grandpa and Grandma Van Ness were married at this very church 51 years ago! How fun to see how their family had grown in the last 50 years! We then walked down to the beach, and then to the dock area, where we took some photos on the family boat. Once the sun started to set, we said our goodbyes, and I took a water taxi back to the main land, all while enjoying a stunning Maine sunset. I truly loved photographing this extended family session, and as a Bar Harbor family photographer, I wish that every family would consider getting some family photos taken while on vacation! There’s nothing better than capturing families in such a relaxed and happy way!
