3 years ago, Abby had just moved to Boston from Iowa, and Ryan had also just moved to Boston, from Rhode Island. They had both moved there for work, but never expected that after only a few weeks in the city, they would meet and fall in love! 2 years later, Ryan proposed to Abby at First Beach in Newport, RI. After she said ‘Yes!’, he surprised her with her entire family coming in from Iowa!
For their wedding, they wanted a soft coastal vibe, and the York Golf and Tennis Club fit that perfectly! The venue has an overlook of an inlet of the ocean, a beautiful lawn for the ceremony, an all-white covered porch for dinner, and an indoor area for dancing! Abby told me she loved bright and clean photos, which describes my aesthetic well. With the weather forecasts showing a weekend of rain, we were all expecting and embracing a very rainy day. It was pouring on my drive there that morning, and when we arrived, the rain had slowed, but it was very foggy, giving a very classic ‘Maine’ feel. To our surprise, the sun ended up coming out while Abby was getting into her dress – what a blessing! Abby wore her Mom’s wedding dress, which had been remade into a robe, while getting ready – so special!
I loved the little details I noticed throughout the day – like the oyster shells used for placeholders that the couple had imprinted images on by hand. Abby’s pearl necklace, white and cream florals, gray suits, and the bridesmaids wearing shades of green all lent to the soft coastal feel of the day. Abby and Ryan chose to do a first look out on the lawn, which was so sweet. We took some time to go down to the dock for couple portraits, and the sun shone brightly! I kept telling the couple all day that Abby’s veil was a paid actor – this beautiful piece of fabric had a mind of it’s own and was flying all over the place! It made for some fun photos though! The skies stayed clear during the ceremony, where I noticed so many friends and family members with tears in their eyes as the couple said their vows. After family portraits, the couple joined their guests for their cocktail hour, where Abby insisted on trying an oyster from the raw bar! When guests sat at their tables for dinner, they were surprised with a handwritten note from the bride and groom. I have to say, the filet mignon that the catering staff served tasted amazing! After toasts and special dances, the crowd got moving on the dance floor! There were so many funny antics – check out the photos to see what I mean! The rain finally came in the evening, while everyone was safely inside and having a fantastic night!
Thank you so much, Ryan and Abby, for trusting me to capture your special day! Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Durney!
Also, thank you to all the amazing vendors who made this day possible!
