Uriah’s Winnie-the-Pooh 1st Birthday Cake Smash

Photography

Uriah is a very special little boy!  At 4 days old, this precious child had open heart surgery, and had his second open heart surgery at only 4 months old!  And now he is turning 1 year old!  If there’s one thing you notice about Uriah when you meet him, it’s how extremely happy he is all the time!  He is non stop giggles and smiles!

Uriah has Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). He was born with a very small, non-functional left ventricle in his heart, and also his heart is on the right side of his chest (instead of the left), which is called Dextrocardia.  After 2 open heart surgeries and 4 heart catheterizations, his health is better than any cardiologist imagined. Both cardiologists from Maine and Boston didn’t see him making it after his first surgery. He’s surpassed everyone’s expectations. Uriah’s parents were told he wouldn’t crawl until after a year old and he’s almost walking on his own! He has been evaluated by OT and is average with kids his age and doesn’t require any therapy, which is rare for a child that’s gone through what he has.  He will have his next surgery sometime within the next couple of years to help make his heart functional. Uriah’s parents, Karen and Jacob, are his biggest cheerleaders! They cherish Uriah and have already been through so much with him! What a special little boy! Uriah’s Mom asked me to photograph Uriah’s cake smash, and she knew that Winnie-the-Pooh would be the perfect theme!  Uriah loved his cake and did a great job smashing it!  AND he has the BEST expressions ever!  Happy 1st birthday Uriah!
